When to join?

Day One at work.

Why?

You do not have a job until you are in a trade union.

An old nationalist or loyalist bogeyman will call with every working man sooner or later so ignore any one who tells you otherwise. He does not know what he or she is talking about and should be told to go away and stop pestering you. Tell these assholes that they are only a nuisance who should not annoy you and others with Tory Party nonsense. Tell them that you do not want them or their associates getting in touch with you or bringing gossip and scandal to your front living room. Do not let them in if they call and stop mixing with people like those and,if necessary, move out of areas they inhabit since they are all unemployed or claiming sick pay or part of the riffraff you find in every country and society,what are known as declasse elements. Some of them have been sent by local police or government agencies to gather information.

Always remember, working men and belles esprites both,that trade unions are democratic organisations unlike the fronts for managers that they were in East Germany and Russia and are to this day for the Communists in China and elsewhere. That way of life perished for all time in the midst of sound and fury over thirty years ago because democrats make much more noise than windbags who should be put to work with a pick and shovel.

Furthermore when a union official abuses someone or betrays him to the police,his pension and stipends can be stopped at any time. All payments to union staff are discretionary after they retire and membership can be cancelled at any time with the approval of a Regional Secretary or the National Executive Council (or,in Ireland,the Executive Committee). A union official who makes frivolous complaints or rings police to complain about male aggression can very soon find himself outside pissing in,not inside pissing out despite what he might try to lead a twister to believe.

The basic rule is that if there is no more money to be made out of you,then you're no use to anyone.
