That plan and me 2/2012 (first posted 2 April 2014)

In August 1990 I devised a Programme of Irish Socialists which I circulated to over three hundred trade unionists, unemployed groups, tenants groups, residents groups and politicians. In 1995 this plan became the National Development Plan after fourteen and a half million Irish pounds had changed hands between the brother of the General Secretary of the Labour Party,Ruairi Quinn, and Guinness Mahon Bankers. 

 Judge for yourself from what I recall from the contents of this plan as to who is responsible, as principal, for the transformation of the South. 

 The plan was on one page as follows and contained fourteen points:

 1.Transport. Motorways between Dublin and Waterford, Cork, Limerick, Galway, Sligo, Derry and Belfast. A tramway for Dublin. Electrification of the railways. Extension of the Dart to all suburbs in Dublin. Construction of an Underground to link Connolly, Heuston and Pearse Street Street Railway Stations. 

2. Health. Public health insurance. 

 3: Education. Free university education. Democratic control of primary and secondary schools. Compulsory Purchase Order on old Parliament Building in College Green with constitutional referendum on crushing incorporeal hereditament prohibiting its use as an Irish Parliament.

 4. Housing. Demolition of all slums and construction of family houses. 

 5. Communities. Libraries, sports centres, leisure centres, town libraries, local arts centres and community halls. Olympic stadium . 

 6.Dublin Pedestrianisation of streets with O’Connell Street turned into a concourse for public meetings . 

 7.Taxation a three-tier taxation system. 

 8. Defence. Compulsory military service. Moving capital to Galway. 

 9. The North. Irish Unity and decriminalization of the IRA.

10.Irish language. Irish language TV station.

 11.Fiscal matters. Repudiation of the national debt.

 12.The nationalisation of the means of production, distribution and exchange.

 13.Agriculture.Keeping as many people on the land as possible. 

14.European Union. Democratisation. Restructuring. 

Ruairi Quinn is still the prisoner of these ideas in the field of education as is Adams as regards the national debt.

As with the possessed man at Lake Gadarene, it is a case of the tired and worn-out broadcasters expiating collectively,"I am Legion". I refer to the clarion call to war of reporters sounded by news reports,this culture of death. 

For all pacifists and Christians of today these reports of wars and revolutions far away are a problem. 

These state terrestrial news bulletins bring only the scent of demons and the voices of warmongering journalists and politicians.

A palliative 

Turn BBC and US public news broadcasts off and listen to music. State news bulletins by radio and TV stations to Northern Ireland and to the South weave illusions and spin myths.

Behind the journalists stand the orchestrators of this raimeis, the big-salary media executives and well-heeled editors, those who shout loudest for war at the rostrum in times of international crisis and disagreements between nations and peoples. News editors guidelines and orders to suppress independent and social media and to censor information come from government bodies. Amongst these,we count wee dafties and whoremongers and private charity experts such as Alasdair Campbell, Jonathan Powell, Anthony Blair and police spooks.

What has been broadcast by the BBC News Corporation about us in Ireland during the key formative years of neo-colonialism is a tissue of lies as Izvestia and Pravda used to be for the Soviet Union in the seventies and eighties.

None of the Northern Ireland Office civil servants or local politicians who indulge these non-entities (and those who get involved in fractious unionist or nationalist politics) control anything relating to the state or the economy here in Northern Ireland. The key decisions and laws involving budgets and rights are made in Westminster. To cover their blushes, the local worthies agree to decisions on broadcasting content and news policy which are taken in London by the BBC News Corporation.

The news that's too hot too handle for local lickspittles 

Sectarian politicians in Northern Ireland are frontmen for the police, doctors and British Army. Our politicians are people seeking money from London for drunken, drug-addled rascals who wouldn't get out of your way if you met them in the street.

This media pathos is the lasting legacy of a peace agreement which brought fools and knaves to power,North and South.

The big picture for the BBC internationally 

The BBC in Britain is stirring up national and international division with its news broadcasts. It is a waiter who serves only the hors d'oeuvres for war and preparation for war.

For many countries,it is not possible to ignore the idiot broadcasts which originate from London. Broadcasts play a key role in preaching hatred and social division,war and violence. 

People of goodwill should try to put the damage done by the capitalist press and Anglo-American media right by pointing out to friends of tolerance, national sovereignty and peace that BBC broadcasting contains only censored news. This reporting is part of a campaign of government disinformation.

Alternatives to the BBC?

Intelligent people support independent writing, broadcasting and publications because the British press is full of silly scribblings by and about people who never amounted to very much.

BBC news broadcasts are a government tonic designed to cause a measure of panic and public hysteria in troubled environments. 

These broadcasts generate disinterest on social matters and public nausea in equal measure. News programming  is ultimately being orchestrated by tiny unrepresentative groups of people who stand at the helm of state.

'False flag' news and communications to social influencers

In Northern Ireland,false friends hold forth on their wit and wisdom,North and South,on a Saturday afternoon either publicly or in your house when you are judged by police to be a social influencer or independent political critic. Theirs is false information designed to mislead and entrap. Such a false friend is being manipulated by a former soldier or policeman or someone with a psychology qualification,a probation officer perhaps,or by a social worker in association with a serving police officer of some standing. 

What is said by this hanger- on is designed to sow confusion and invite chaotic ideaisation. False representations are a web of contradiction, illusion and deceit. Those types appear in every politically-troubled environment.All that they say is made-up in some public house.

We call this active disinformation a political hoax and a secret police deception.

Female politicians don't want anything other than public money for speeches and public "services".

This documentary evidence these witless female nuisances refer to as "hearsay". I kid you not.

Women in this instance could be best described as schizoaffective since they-and the feminist is typical of the type-are preaching about concepts of which they have not the slightest knowledge.

Nationalist economists down South.Mr. David Mc Williams

 Mr. David Mc Williams,the well-known copycat artiste,sees himself as the man of the moment preaching and hashing about Irish unity. This individual is the loquacious Free State a..ehole who suggested bringing in Latvian teachers to undermine teachers organisations and paying them Latvian rates of pay in his custom-made Banana Republic down South.

What sort of Irish unity is his idyll to be? 

The interests of farmer and townsman, tradesman and labourer, shopkeeper and customer,rich factory owner or landlord and worker and tenant cannot be united or truly reconciled in any sort of meaningful harmony. That is REALITY.

 His is the nationalist hashing of Dublin 4-types,Gardai,Irish Army sergeants, street-crawlers, the declassed Sinn Fein canaille, the farmers and those hardy annuals affiliated to a US-inspired paramilitary group whose apogee of political violence culminated thirty years before its political apogee. 

Mc Williams petite bourgeois scribbling in the Sunday Business Post is leading nowhere other than up a blind alley in terms of political adherence to modern civil and economic norms.

National democratic politics as represented by the policies of Fianna Fail and socialist democracy and Labour speak with a truer voice to modern Ireland than the literary meanderings of such nationalist scribblers.

 In terms of what they claim as their own unique policies,Sinn Fein are coat-tailing social democrats and the labour movement. As with street-crawlers,they are out for 'something cheap' or hawking old wares' and Mary Louise Mc Donald is only a fishwoman and street-caller.

Can Mc Williams not just go away and hide under a large tree and stop mixing with dangerous people who menace and threaten their political opponents?

This nationalist political model was based on political terror and vigilantee violence. The model for vigilantees is police menaces. 

A police state worked very thoroughly in Russia between 1919 and 1953 but the Soviet economy ran out of road in the 1980's. The contemporary allegations of technical incompetence levelled at the bureaucratic model of statehood,the Soviet Union,are completely out of touch with a mighty engine of socialist construction. That,those of you who look down on Communism,my merry gentlemen, is an incontrovertible fact of history. Ask the elderly Germans and ageing people of the East if you doubt my assessment.

Would Mc Williams type of bourgeois model, his 'updated,modernised' Sinn Fein in government be any better than Fianna Fail?

No. It would not because the country's long boom is at an end and the slieveen trick of purloining other countries' tax revenues will no longer finance structural development. In other word,money and goodwill would be in short supply.

Fianna Fail,1997-2008?

Recent capital  expansion underwrote the runaway inflation of domestic house prices and only allowed marginal gains in living standards for the working poor. There are no social improvements of lasting significance. A large part of the expanded lower (industrial) and higher (financial) capital expansion went to underwrite property development.

Fianna Fail 1992-7?

Reynolds grand initiative to create a low-tax economy in association with Ray Mc Sharry,Bertie Ahern and Charlie Mc Creevy amounted to financial pyramid schemes and a regurgitation of Thatcher's fickle economic certainties (when all three were not cooking the books). Nationalist politics boiled down to a piece of political haberdashery.

A realistic appraisal of economic change 

Ireland's industrial and economic growth was bankrolled not just by German and European Union fiscal support but by US industrial benevolence. That impetus was something bought at the cost of loss of American imperial treasure in blood,capital and technology.

 All went to a basket case country,an immature people and a government which received the accolade of international pariah. 

Why,so? 

Many factors but at the root of it lay Irish country people's hostility to change, cultural backwardness and the profound social maladjustment of its people.

In the North,the ordinary decency of the average Sinn Feiner casts a pale shadow over Free State opportunists of the press type who indulge themselves with bourgeois philistinism articulated through the pages of the Sunday Business Post. The Troubles-era Southern Sinn Feiner was more an Irish Irelander with no connection to the working class movement other than 'helping out' at election time. (I am thinking in particular of a haveril from Clones,Seamus Treanor).

Modern times

The Southern worker has grown in maturity but is trapped in a small country with a sclerotic and chaotic working class movement.

If,as many will,you favour a Sinn Fein candidate, don't vote in your other preferences for wishy-washy politicians with no roots in the working class who only appear at election time and have no popular  support on the ground. Those types are in all political parties and do not have any real love for the poor or low-paid and struggling workers.

One thing every middle class nationalist hates is a socialist. He knows that he will pull away his political veil to reveal a money-grubbing,penny-pinching huckster. 

Putting  your money on the right horse is the main issue in the Irish freedom camp.  Antagonism has hung over Ireland since before the Dublin Lockout and still has a resonance for wage workers to this day. While conservative nationalism may have had an impress on the Free State before the Easter Rising, Connolly and Pearse dispelled the arcane myths of an Irish Nation.

Progress after the Blueshirt crisis?

Think what you will,the facts are clear. It was not Fine Gael or hole-and-corner nationalism conjured up on the back of a cigarette box but Fianna Fail which encouraged and managed social and economic development. Now,Sinn Fein have stepped into their stead.

Other countries may not have Ireland's paper value but they run their affairs more evenhandedly.

Republicans are lost for ideas and cannot articulate themselves properly when faced with difficult questions of consensus and agreement or simple economic conundrums such as 'quantitative easing'.

They must turn to intelligent and educated people for assistance and because nationalists rule by brute force and intimidation of the lowest kind,namely blackmail,their patrons know better than to deny them guidance.

Unlike socialists however, when republicans have no further use for advisers of a certain, outdated type,they keep a watchful eye out for tacky recrimination directed at themselves and their group because like all socialist revolutionaries,they are by no stretch of the imagination a proper, functioning political party. Ireland's conditions and prevalent position of semi-colony do not allow for anything other than clandestine arrangements concerning policy formation.

At the perimeter of the tax incentive areas are there any signs of renewal or reconstruction of wasted and derelict properties?

NONE! None whatsoever,not as much as a single building or work of renovation.

Look around Dublin. Unless there was a double tax write-off,nothing was built.

...in many areas well away from the capital,there are large swathes of unneeded houses slowly going to wrack and ruin after being thrown up in a fury of overdevelopment and speculative greed.

The South is a society where since the fall of "actually existing socialism" more and more wealth is concentrated in every fewer hands.

The Just Society of Garret Fitzgerald's imagination?

It is his party and Fianna Fail which are responsible for the unbearable misery and suffering of the poor and marginalised.

Take a deep breath and think,good people of the South.

Are you better off than under the colonial oppressor? Is a so-called oppositionist party of old menopausal clothes horses any better?

Think intelligently and ponder where an almost threefold expansion of employment from 1.1 million in 1990 to 2.8 million today has left you. Many have made a killing. Unfortunately facts and figures on the economy are presented in appealing terms.

However all things are relative. Think not how much ca. €200 is worth when you go abroad but how much it buys you in comparison to pounds sterling.

Purchasing power parities,therefore.

What is to Be Done?

The police cannot be expected to contribute meaningfully to the solution of the problem of the police -doctor terror nexus because they do not have an ounce of kindness -do not fool yourself,members of the public-but respond well to discipline.

We need legislation to restrict the powers of police, doctors and vermin such as social workers.

In the interim,if the police are making a nuisance of themselves as they often do in country areas,respond by writing to the Chief Constable. If they have committed a serious crime of assault or been party to its committal,write to the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Where a copper is sitting on a tribunal as secret witness and ex-policemen often do these days,write to the Northern Ireland Judicial Appointments Commission. Do not leave that to your solicitor since he will soon cut himself loose from a journalistic advocate such as a social media critic while indulging himself with meaningless pleasantries unless he is a particularly dedicated 'legal hound' in this age of universal insights and press indifference.

While solicitors may have great mental stamina,in prevalent conditions in Northern Ireland it is often too much to ask of him to put all or,even,a fair proportion of your wrongs too right.

 A trade union can do that much more quickly and promptly to prevent a catastrophe.

In practice the Catholic Church's preferential option for the poor exists without lowering expectations for the many or reversing social gains for the poor.

The response to employer inflexibility and growing sectarian dissent and political unrest,not to mention environmental degradation and NHS waste,is to vote for labour candidates with a proven track record who are real fighters,not ciphers for police and army. Most political parties believe in a constant cycle of personal attrition and internecine conflict in Northern Ireland.

Does that explain my rather conservative, mainstream proposals,often rewarded by success but by neither money nor reputation nor acclaim particularly as regards my fateful ventures outside my native country to find employment.

The closed shop and secondary action? Burning issues of our times.

My approach in the final year(s) of my legal studies to questioning as to 'bright-spark' opinions on labour law reforms was that it was a case of 'all.or nothing' as regards  union recognition and  a closed shop (the US system). This brings undercover police and plainclothes soldiers into the unions since they monitor workplace representation with a view to isolating some people. The closed shop is an anachronism unless we want detectives in our soup.The American system is not for Britain.

The question of solidarity action is fraught with difficulties. This practice has the potential to lead to lawlessness and crime unless it is undertaken in-house in a big industrial combine,effective monopoly or highly-focussed  multinational whose legal status is that of a trust or benevolently-owned organisation or state business with no pretensions. By a state business I mean the NHS.

The focus of trade unions in the building trade,industry and trades or crafts ince 1952 in England should have been bogus self- employment,the isolation of anyone who was an industrious shop steward and the discounting of the employee's net income against the employer's tax liability and national insurance contributions.This is the great historical iniquity which the Shrewsbury pickets tried to put right. They couldn't find their way to their political target and were harassed by police.

But I digress,can not the trade union movement distance itself from those who have nothing of relevance to say such as Ken Livingstone and are past their best. Can we not endeavour to politically roll back the tide of bogus sell-offs, privatisations and fraudulent public housing sales. Unions should invest more money in the real well-being of workers particularly in the North of Ireland,by funding political representation.

Can collective socialist party names in Ireland not be reshaped to one comprehensive party name on the left such as Labour and the sectarian spirit be given over for socialist unity.

Republican ex-prisoners and those being detained for whatever reason,are very wide of the mark as regards many vital issues relating to the 1930's. They see society only through the distorting prism of other ex-prisoners and those around them. Ex-prisoners attract too many spies,paid informants and false witnesses to get even the basics of normative relations in the former socialist societies right. A 'Fifth Column'. Fifth columnists

What is meant by a fifth columnist is perhaps lost on modern viewers of history peering through the distorting prism of Western historiography.

No matter what way you approach Russia in the period 1922-48 and Germany in 1929-45,both dominant ideologies were outgrowths of death-cults. The contemporary explanation of Stalinism was that it was the "dictatorship of the proletariat".

We have to look not just to Soviet politics but elsewhere for the origins of that bunker mentality. Russia was faced by its enemies to its west and south-west. That fact explained its siege mentality in the 1930's.

 It was even in Britain (Seifert,2022) the case that war preparations were underway by 1937.

 Russia in the period of the Great Purges went through the annihilation of all protest movements,a grim rerun of its old history under the Tsar from the assassination of Alexander 2.

The Soviet Union under Stalin was losing its old revolutionary cheerfulness (Osip Mandelstam,The Kremlin Mountaineer, 1937).

Stalin in his vast domain being someone who had never completed his secondary education and being without a law degree, had to rely on a vicious brute such as the Prosecutor-General,Vyshinsky,Yezhov and Zhdanov to enforce his totalitarian norms. The result was police terror and military lawlessness. Stalin lashed blindly around in all directions until all dissent was cowed into silence.

His reign of terror was what Lenin said in The Immediate Tasks of the Soviet Government in April 1919 was "the dictatorship of one man" or "one man management". That was something Lenin approved of because he aspired to that dictatorship himself.

Stalin's "mercy for the captive" 

I the release of Trotsky from his bond to Russian Communism to go into exile in 1928 and granting of the suffrage to the 'former dispossessed classes' in the new Russian Constitution of 1935,we see a double occlusion,a 'double bluff',worthy of a political mathematician.

In my view it is correct to see in Stalin a brute and a Master Deceiver operating under the influence of demonic powers and empowered by dictatorial forces. Fanciful Bolshevik notions about worker management ignore one important fact. A worker with his back to the wall only confounds his leader with his innocent guile and terrorises even members of his immediate circle. We say,he will denounce his manager to anybody.

72 000 prisoners,our times

We look to that noble son of Palestine for answers to the drugs problem and drugs gangs,the President of El Salvador.

There the government has regained control of civil society by locking up members of drugs gangs on suspicion of gang membership and the annual toll of 3 000-4 000 drugs-related murders have been brought to a dramatic end.

Our society as with all modern societies faces an elemental problem with drugs which can only be solved by political authority being brought to bear on those who take life so easily and bring ruin everywhere.
